Dja’de el‐Mughara. A ninth millennium sequence in the Euphrates valley (Syria)

Dr. Bérénice Chamel is an archaeo-anthropologist specialized in the study of human remains from Neolithic in the Near East. She investigates the evolution of health status during the neolithisation, induced by major changes in the subsistence economy. She completed her PhD in 2014 at the University of Lyon 2, on the bioanthropology and the funerary practices of the Syrian Neolithic populations between 9820 and 6000 cal. BC. She participated in several projects on the emergence of infectious diseases - particularly tuberculosis - and on the alimentation of past populations in Syria and Cyprus. Currently teaching assistant in Oriental Prehistory at the Lyon 2 University, she is also an associate researcher with the CNRS unit Archéorient at the Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée in Lyon.
