His work focuses on the Neolithic transition in the Eastern Mediterranean. He is particularly interested in the emergence of the first pottery-making societies in the Southern Levant (second half of the 7th millennium cal. BC). Julien Vieugué is currently leading the CERASTONE project (2020-2024) which aims to better understand the paces, causes and processes underlying the late adoption of pottery in the Southern Levant (see details ).
