Excavations at Theopetra Cave in Thessaly, Greece: From the Middle Paleolithic until Modern Times

Dr. Aikaterini (Nina) Kyparissi-Apostolika is Emeritus Director of the Ephorate of Palaeoanthropology and Speleology, and current member of the Central Archaeological Council (ΚΑΣ). Nina directed the excavations at Theopetra Cave and has since coordinated all the specialist studies on the material recovered. Her interests include the Greek Neolithic in Thessaly, the use of caves during this period, and the Mesolithic to Neolithic transition. She was awarded her Ph.D. in 1998 by the University of Thessaloniki. Her previous positions include Director of the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, Director of the Ephorate of Palaeoanthropology and Speleology, and Director of the 14th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities in Lamia. In addition, she has also participated in and directed excavations and field surveys at numerous sites throughout Greece. She is the principal editor of this publication project, working with Dr. Gilbert Marshall.
