D. Alex Walthall
Morgantina Studies Vol. VIII: The Theater, City Walls, and Roman Market
D. Alex Walthall is an Associate Professor of Greek and Roman Archaeology in the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in the archaeology of ancient Sicily, with a particular focus on the material culture of the Hellenistic and Roman Republican periods. He earned his B.A. in classics and archaeology from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. from the Department of Art & Archaeology at Princeton University. Alex has published widely on topics archaeological, numismatic, and epigraphic. He is the author of Sicily and the Hellenistic Mediterranean World: Economy and Administration during the Reign of Hieron II (CUP 2024). Since 2011, Alex has directed excavations at the archaeological site of Morgantina in central Sicily. In 2024, he assumed the role of Director of the American Excavations at Morgantina.
