Tell al-Nasriyah and its surroundings. The Middle Orontes Valley through time

Prof. Dominique Parayre is a historian and a field archaeologist (Ecole Normale Supérieure 1968-1973, agrégation 1972, Doctorat d’Etat es-Lettres 1988). Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Paris 10-Nanterre (1972-1992), then Professor of History and Archaeology of the Ancient Middle East at the University of Lille 3 (1992-2013), she is now Emeritus Professor (2013-present).

She participated to numerous archaeological expeditions in North Mesopotamia and in the Levant, and became co-director of the Tell al-Nasriyah project (Syrian-French Archaeological Expedition of the Orontes) in 2007. She also managed the french team in a Lebanese research project at Enfeh with the University of Balamand (2013-2016), and in a joint project at Ardé with the Lebanese University (2016).

Her main interests are iconography (Image and Society), material culture (especially seals and sealings) and zoo-anthropology (Man and Animal). Her field work focused on the societies of the Bronze Ages, with special attention to the Middle Orontes area.
