Tell Afis and the Chronology
of the Iron Age I

Between 1988 and 2010 Fabrizio Venturi was a member of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Tell Afis-Syria, carrying out the role as field director of Area E4. He also participated as field director in the Syro-Italian project in the site of Arslan Tash-Syria (ancient Khadatu), which took place between 2007 and 2009, whose aim was to provide an archaeological framework to the ivories found in the so-called "batiment aux ivoire" excavated by F. Thureau Dangin during the 1920's and recently published in full by the Louvre Editions.

He earned his Ph.D. in Archaeology at the University of Pisa and he was Research Fellow at the University of Bologna, teaching at the Universities of Bologna, Ravenna, and Trapani. He is the author of the monograph "La Siria nell’età delle trasformazioni (XIII–X sec. a.C.), Nuovi contributi dallo scavo di Tell Afis (2007)", and articles on the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age I of Syria. He has also organized and edited several international conferences in Bologna, Ravenna and Florence.
