Giulio Palumbi is currently permanent CNRS researcher in archaeology at the Laboratory CEPAM in Nice. He graduated in Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Rome « La Sapienza » and studied Social Anthropology for his Master degree at the University College London. His PhD, awarded by the University of Rome « La Sapienza », focused on the developments and expansion of the Kura-Araxes culture in Southern Caucasus and Eastern Anatolia.

Since 1999 Giulio Palumbi has been involved with fieldwork in Turkey, Armenia and Georgia by taking part in several archaeological expeditions at Arslantepe and Sos Hoyuk (Turkey), Aratashen and Godedzor (Armenia). Presently he’s directing excavations at the sites of Kiçik Tepe and Qaraçinar in Azerbaijan.

He joined the Italian archaeological expedition at Mersin - Yumuktepe in 2008, taking part in the excavations of the Chalcolithic occupation, and was in charge of the study of the ceramics of Level XVI.
