Dr. Jean-Charles Moretti is a former member of the French School of Athens and the French Institute of Anatolian Studies in Istanbul, a research director at the CNRS assigned to the Institute for Research on Ancient Architecture, and director of the French archaeological mission at Delos. He has participated in numerous excavations and architectural studies in Spain, France, Greece, and Turkey. His work focuses on Greek and Roman monumental architecture, particularly temples and buildings used for entertainment, such as theaters, stadiums, and hippodromes.
Dr. Moretti, archaeologist and historian of ancient architecture, is the lead researcher for this Shelby White and Leon Levy Program project. He conducted excavations in the stage building and orchestra of the theater at Argos between 1986 and 1989. For the monograph, he will oversee the publication of the excavation report, the architectural study—in collaboration with architect Anna Papadopoulou—and the coordination of all research.
