Munhata and the Second Neolithic Revolution in the Near East
Dr. Julien Vieugué is a permanent researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). His work focuses on the Neolithic transition in the Eastern Mediterranean. He is particularly interested in the emergence of the first pottery-making societies in the Southern Levant (second half of the 7th millennium cal. BC). Julien Vieugué is currently leading the CERASTONE project (2020-2024) which aims to better understand the paces, causes and processes underlying the late adoption of pottery in the Southern Levant (see details https://cerastone.cnrs.fr). In collaboration with Anna Eirikh-Rose, he carried out the excavation of the "Byblos" site of Nahal Zippori 3 (2018- 2019) before starting that of the "Yarmukian" village of Sha'ar Hagolan (2022-2030) in order to better understand the origin of the first potters in the region.
