Luca Bombardieri
Unlocking the Legacy of Ayia Irini–Paleokastro: Reassessing an Early-Excavated Late Bronze Age Cemetery in Cyprus
Luca Bombardieri is Associate Professor in Aegean and Cypriote Archaeology at the University of Siena, having previously been appointed as Lecturer and Associate Professor in Aegean Prehistory and Near Eastern Archaeology at the Universities of Florence and Turin, in Italy.
Luca earned his MA and PhD in Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Florence, under the supervision of Paolo Emilio Pecorella, and joined research projects in Syria, where he supervised the excavation of the Neo-Assyrian Palace at Tell Barri/Kahat, in Iraq and in Italy.
He is the scientific director of the Erimi Archaeological Project, focusing the fieldwork and research activities at Middle Bronze Age Erimi-Laonin tou Porakou, in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and numerous international research partner institutions. Luca Bombardieri is co-director of the book series Studi Ciprioti (ECF, University of Venice), member of the scientific board of the Cahiers du Centre d’Etudes Chypriotes (EfA) and Principal Investigator of EartHeritage research project (Italian Ministry of Research – PRIN 2022).
His research covers a broad range of interests, including aspects of social organization and ideology of Bronze Age communities in Cyprus, the prehistory of Mediterranean islands and modern reception of Mediterranean prehistoric art and ideology.
