Dr. Małgorzata Grębska-Kulow (Emeritus) has had a long career as an archaeologist and curator in the Regional Museum of History, Blagoevgrad, South-west Bulgaria. Her research interests focus on the prehistory (7th-4th millennium BC) of the Balkans and especially the Neolithic Period and process of Neolithisation in southwestern Bulgaria. Since 1985 she has participated in numerous archaeological excavations and surveys in the region. She was Director of archaeological excavations at the prehistoric sites of Drenkovo I, Ilindentsi, Brezhani and the archaeological expedition “Skaptopara”. Additionally she was co-director of archeological excavations at the prehistoric site of Damianitsa, and deputy director at the prehistoric sites of Balgarchevo and Kovachevo. Dr. Grębska-Kulow graduated MA in Archeology and PhD in Archaeology in Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland). She is an author and co-author of numerous articles devoted to different aspects of prehistory in the Balkans, and co-author of two monographs.

Dr. Grębska-Kulow is the lead researcher for this Shelby White and Leon Levy Program project. She has been intimately involved with the project’s sites, Drenkovo I excavated in 2003 , Brezhani excavated in 2009 and the archeomagnethic survey at Drenkovo II conducted in 2010. Dr. Grębska-Kulow will be working with her team and coordinating the digitalization of all data from the excavations, establishing a new database which will be created during the project term, elaboration of the website of the project, and, finally, the electronic publication of the monograph.
