Tenedos: The Necropolis

Prof. Turan Takaoğlu specializes in the archaeology of the western Anatolian littoral, with a particular focus on the Troad and the adjacent island of Tenedos. He obtained a MA in Classics and Classical Archaeology at the University of Arizona in 1996 and a PhD in Archaeological Studies at Boston University in 2000. Prof. Takaoğlu is the author of numerous articles on the archaeology of the Troad and is currently the director of the Tenedos Excavation Project in Turkey. His primary research focus is on the nature of cultural interactions and trade in the eastern Aegean world. He will coordinate the contributions of the researchers, oversee the processing of the database and the consequent publication of the monograph related to the past necropolis excavations on Tenedos.

Prof. Takaoğlu is a Full Professor of Archaeology at the department of archaeology of Onsekiz Mart University in Çanakkale (NW Turkey), is the director of Tenedos excavations on the island of Bozcaada (Tenedos). In the past, he has participated in numerous archaeological excavations throughout western Anatolia, including Smintheion (Sanctuary of Apollo Smintheus) (2004-2013), Patara (1990), Cyzicus (1991-1992, 1997), Chianciano Therme (1995), Tralles (1997-1999), and Tlos (2014-2016).
