The Helmand Sistan Project

Publication of the Helmand Sistan Project is being led by William B. Trousdale, Curator Emeritus of Anthropology from the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) of the Smithsonian Institution, and Mitchell Allen, Research Associate at the Smithsonian and UC Berkeley. Trousdale directed The Helmand Sistan Project for its duration. Prior to NMNH, he was Associate Curator of Chinese Art at the Smithsonian’s Freer Gallery. He is a specialist on Afghanistan, on Europeans in 19th Century Central and South Asia, and on military academies, and has authored five books and numerous articles.
