Lapithos Vrysi tou Barba, Cyprus. Early and Middle Bronze Age Tombs Excavated by J.L. Myres and M. Markides

PUBLISHED 2018. Please view the publication's webpage.
A second volume has been produced from the same grant and may be viewed HERE.

This grant is for the publication of a full report on excavations undertaken at Lapithos Vrysi tou Barba on the central north coast of Cyprus in 1913 and 1917 by John Myres of the University of Oxford and Menelaos Markides of the Cyprus Museum. Lapithos Vrysi tou Barba is one of the largest cemeteries of Early and Middle Bronze Age date on the island and must have been associated with a major coastal settlement, which has not been located. Fieldwork in the area is currently not possible because the site is in the occupied part of the island and not under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus. Myres and Markides excavated 75 tombs and recovered over 2500 artefacts. These are housed in the Cyprus Museum, together with the archival records relating to the excavations. The publication will include detailed documentation of the tombs and finds, archaeometric analyses of the pottery and metal artifacts, and a discussion of the significance of Lapithos in an island-wide context.
The publication project is directed by Dr. Jennifer Webb.
