Framing the Bronze Age at Ebla: A bio-archaeological approach for the reconstruction of the ancient economy and eco-System
I earned my Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2013. Between 2013 and 2015, I held a research fellowship at Sapienza University of Rome, focusing on the Middle Bronze Age pottery of Ebla and overseeing the coordination of activities in the Ancient Near East laboratory. During this time, I supervised graduate students in their laboratory work related to Ebla excavation documentation.
From 2015 to 2017, I was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Bern in Switzerland, where I conducted research on the architectural organization in Syria during the Middle Bronze Age. Subsequently, from 2018 to 2020, I collaborated with the University of Bologna on the EDUU and WALADU projects concerning cultural heritage and archaeological education in Iraq, under the supervision of Professor Nicolò Marchetti. In this role, I conducted training courses for Iraqi researchers on archaeological research methodology and new techniques.
In 2022 and 2023, I held a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Bologna, focusing on archaeological and cultural aspects of the Arabian Peninsula from the Bronze Age to the Islamic era. Throughout my career, I have actively participated in various international congresses and workshops on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East. Additionally, I have authored numerous scientific publications covering topics such as funerary traditions, the transition from the Early to Middle Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age pottery, architecture, and small objects.
Currently I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Sapienza University of Rome. I have been a member of the Italian Archaeological Mission of Ebla since 2006, actively participating in field excavations under the guidance of Paolo Matthiae, the Director of the Italian mission. Furthermore, I’m the Co-Director of the Saruq Al Hadid archaeological expedition in Dubai Municipality, a project contracted with the ARCO research center based in Abu Dhabi.
